  • 4DPi-24-HAT Kernel Package install error message: stdin: not in gzip format

I'm trying to install 4DPi-24-HAT Kernel Package

fresh install of rasbian on a Pi3

    update/upgrade performed

I followed all instructions and get the following after typing sudo tar -xzvf 4d-hats_4-9- 35_v1.0.tar.gz -C /

error message: stdin: not in gzip format
    tar: child returned status 1
tar: error is not recoverable: exiting now

    what am I doing wrong?

    Hello CaptainVideo,

Welcome to the forum. First, try to install the latest kernel version
    http://www.4dsystems.com.au/download...34_v1.1.tar.gz

Copy the file to your Raspberry Pi then extract using the command:
    Code:
    sudo tar -xzvf gen4-hats_4-14-34_v1.1.tar.gz -C /
Alternatively, you can download the file directly to your Raspberry Pi by running the command:
    Code:
    wget http://www.4dsystems.com.au/downloads/4DPi/All/gen4-hats_4-14-34_v1.1.tar.gz
One reason for failure to extract the file might be because of incomplete download.
Anyway, please let me know if that resolved the issue. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Kevin

        Hello CaptainVideo,

I also encountered issues when using the wget command. Have you tried downloading the file using your PC and copying it to your Raspberry Pi?

Delete the previous file and copy the downloaded file on your Raspberry Pi. You should be able to extract the file now.
        Code:
        sudo tar -xzvf gen4-hats_4-14-34_v1.1.tar.gz -C /
        Best Regards,
        Kevin

Sorry it took so long to get back on here. The problem is resolved by downloading direct as suggested above by John Kevin. I bought a 2nd unit today.

          thanks John
