You cannot turn off the display of the uLCD-144.

The FAQ should read more like:-

Q16. Why does the contrast command not work with the Picaso LCD modules?
Ans. The LCD screens do not support contrast settings because of their design. You cannot change the contrast on an LCD, though you can turn the display On or Off.

Q16b. Why does the contrast command not work with the Goldelox LCD modules?
Ans. The original Goldelox design used OLEDs which do not have a backlight and thus no pin was allocated to the Backlight as there is no Backlight on OLED modules. Since there is no spare pins on the Goldelox chip the Backlight is permanenly on (although it does turn off during resets).

The PDF document, similarly is talking about the implementation of contrast on OLED screens, it is not applicable to LCD screens.

How to turn off the display with uLCD-144

Hello, I want to turn off the display of uLCD-144 (GFX) to save power. It seems to be possible but gf_set and gf_contrast commands doesn't works with this LCD , even with 0 value.
I found this in the forum:
    Q16. Why does the contrast
command not work with the uLCD-144(GFX) module?

Ans. The LCD screens do not support contrast
settings because of their design. You cannot change the contrast
on an LCD, though you can turn the display On or Off.

I found this in PDF document about gf_contrast function :
"must be implemented in users code for GOLDELOX-GFX2 with
external initialisation tables, refer to individual display driver data sheets)"

    I don't see what it meens ...
So, how to turn off the display ?

    Thanks .
