As a test I just plugged 4 AA rechargeable 1.2V batteries direct into the 5V header pin - worked perfectly, as I would expect it to.

    Normal 1.2V Energiser 2000mAh AA batteries. ("NH15 1.2V NiMH HR6")

I would imagine Matt is using standard 1.2V rechargeable AA batteries, rather than standard non-rechargeables, which are 1.5V.

Matt, thanks, just confirming, you're not using the standard 1.5V batteries, correct?

I can see no reason why that wouldn't work.

I have a "portable charger" from eBay that takes 4xAA batteries. It uses them in 2 pairs of 2 for 2.4V with higher current, and then boosts it to USB voltages(~5V) and my Picadillo runs off that OK. I would imagine 4xAA in series to give 4.8V would be even better since it can then source more current. 4.8V is perfectly within USB voltage specifications (which for USB 2 state 5V ±0.25V).

Is anyone successfully using 4 X 1.2V rechargeable batteries on the 5V barrel jack? The specs and arithmetic look OK.

    thanks,
