  • Response to Get Picture incorrect length

    Hi,

I am trying to take pictures of a tree, with uCamII and the software uCam-II Demo.
(I am connecting the cam to my laptop with a FT232 chip and powering it directly from USB)
In indoors the cam works OK in all modes.
In outdoors, in RAW mode the cam work OK, but in JPEG 640x480 mode the software shows "Response to Get Picture incorrect length", after that the camera doesnt respond anymore and I have to turn off and on the power.

    ------------------from the demo software log:
    Sync [AA 0D 00 00 00 00] <AA 0E 0D 16 00 00 AA 0D 00 00 00 00>
    Synced on attempt 1
    ACK [AA 0E 00 00 C0 00]
    Initial [AA 01 00 07 09 07] <AA 0E 01 17 00 00>
    Set Pkg size [AA 06 08 C8 00 00] <AA 0E 06 18 00 00>
    Get Picture [AA 04 05 00 00 00] <AA 0E 04 19 00 00>
Response to Get Picture incorrect length
Set Pkg size [AA 06 08 C8 00 00] Response missing (has camera gone to sleep?)
Set Pkg size [AA 06 08 C8 00 00] Response missing (has camera gone to sleep?)

Is it a known issue? How can I take the JPEG pictures?

There is no known issue with get picture?

Could the camera be going to sleep? (More than 15 seconds between commands?)

    Here's a log I just did

    Code:
    Opening COM13 Speed=57600 baud
Sync [AA 0D 00 00 00 00] Response missing (has camera gone to sleep?)
Sync [AA 0D 00 00 00 00] Response missing (has camera gone to sleep?)

    ACK [AA 0E 00 00 73 00]
    Initial [AA 01 00 07 09 07] <AA 0E 01 01 00 00>

      Hi,

We have found the very same problem. When in JPG 648x480 mode you try to acquire an image of a scene containing a TEXTURED SURFACE with fine detail, occuppying more than 2/3 of the field of vision, the camera hangs when the Get Picture command is issued. This failure behaviour CAN BE REPRODUCED AT WILL, and happens with all the cameras we have tested so far (4 units). The failure depends only on the scene contents. If the textured surface is partly occluded by a sheet of paper, or the lens is slightly unfocused, then the problem doesn't happen.

I'm attaching a document showing some textured scenes where we have found that the camera fails.

We would be very grateful if the support team of 4D Systems could address this problem, which is really serious. Maybe there is some bug in the JPG compression algorithm, which only arises when a very complex image such a textured one must be compressed.

      Xavier
