  • Custom board with DIABLO16

    Hi!
I've made my custom board with diablo16, but I don't know to program it.
If I use PmmC loader to load the pmmc, I receive this error:
    unexpected response from display:-0
    What could be the problem?
    Thank you
    Pietro

I've seen that there aren't oscillation at the out of the CLK2 buffer. But all the power voltages are ok. In the VREF pin I measure a stable voltage of 1.7 V.
In another board I've replaced the quartz with an oscillator. CLK1 get the oscillation from the oscillator, but CLK2 is not stable. Periodicaly, CLK2 goes high for some cycle. In this case, I measure a noisy VREF.
There is anyone the can help me?

      Hi Pietro
You are going to have to provide some more information I think.
      Schematic, photos, etc
Was the Diablo chip new or did you remove it from a 4D module?
What exactly are you trying to achieve with your new board? Is it driving the same 4D display or something else?

CLK2 drives the clock for the SSD1963 for the display, that will not affect the programming of Diablo, however it may give you an indication of what the actual crystal is doing, which WILL affect the programming of Diablo.

      More information please

        Hi James,
Thank you for your reply. Schematic has been copied from datasheet. Which kind of photo can help you?
Diablo chip si new. Today I will try to replace it with a Diablo from an exisisting original board.
The new board adds new peripheral to the system. It uses the same 4d display.
Ask me any question you need.
        Regards
        Pietro

          Hi James!
          There are news...
I have replaced the diablo in my board, with the diablo of the module purchased from you, and it works! So my board is ok.
This means that there are some problems with my Diablo.

Here the photo of my Diablo, that doesn't work.

            Hi Pietro

Good that the replaced one does work. Are you sure there were no solder bridges/shorts on/under the pins of Diablo?
That is the only thing I can really think of since you replaced it and it works.

            Regards
            James

              Hi,
Before I replaced it, I've checked solder bridges and short. Two board were mounted and both failed. I don't think is a solder problem.

              Regards
              Pietro
