  • IoD-09TH basics

    Hi All,

    I want to do basic display stuff with the IoD-09TH, I have installed the board ESP8266 Boards (3.0.2) in the board manager and then selected "4D Systems Gen4IoD Range."

    I also installed the library "GFX4d-master.zip" after downloading the latest version.

    I also copied "http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json" to file preferences

    I selected the "Meter" example and on the first compilation it failed, saying "#include "ESP8266WiFi.h" did not exist, so I downloaded the ESP8266 "Arduino-master.zip" manually from https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino, added it manually, again I selected "4D Systems Gen4IoD Range." from the board manager and tried to compile. this time I get loads of warnings as below.

    anyone help?

    Hello,

    Welcome to the forum,

    I'm sorry to hear you are having an issue.

    There is a seperate library for the IoD-09

    https://github.com/4dsystems/GFX4DIoD9

    Could you please try installing this library and let me know if it solves the propblem.

      Thanks for the reply, I installed the library you linked to, opened a new example from that library "Iod9Demo" set the board to Nano as that's what I'm using and I get this error

        Hi,

        Thanks for installing the library.

        You need to set the board to "4D Systems Gen4IoD Range."

        The IoD-09 isn't a serially controlled display so I'm not sure were the Nano is connected. The IoD-09 needs to be programmed directly with the UPA and a USB cable to the display.

        Please let me know if you still get errors working this way.

          Bit confused, can you go check out this link to the datasheet on RS's website https://docs.rs-online.com/ef49/0900766b8160a4a4.pdf on page 5 This is the connection list, it shows RX and TX only with GPIO etc.

            Hi Steve,

            Yes it does have a TX & RX which can be used but the IoD has no software running to accept serial commands. This doesn't mean that it can't be serially controlled if code was created to provide this functionality.

            The IoD9Demo needs to be flashed directly to the IoD-09 and won't work flashed to a Nano.

            Do you have a UPA as shown on page 10 of the datasheet ?

              Hi Paul.

              Ah, that explains it, TBH I just plumped for this as on the surface it looked an easy drop-in just to get some text on the screen and have the ability for future development. is there anything code-wise out there that I can drop on it to give me basic Text commands like ....

                  Hi Steve,

                  Sorry for the delay, I am looking into something we may already have that will allow you to send serial messages to do what you have asked on the IoD-09 which should be able to do the simple commands you need.

                  I'm still working on it but should be able to update you by the end of the day.

                        The piece of code we have is configured for the IoD-32 so just making some changes for the smaller screen resolution of the IoD-09.
